CAT 2008...

4.Consider obtuse angled triangles with sides 8 cm, 15 cm and x cm. If x is an integer, then how many such triangles exist???

the ans is 17 as sum of two sides of a triangle should be greater or equal to the other side...so 2 condition comes..x> or equal to 7 and x< or equal to 23..so the ans 17

i got the same ans=17 bt as its too easy to get,,,i made the solution a bit complicated
nd got another ans=10...
which one is correct..?

bt how cum?? wt ws d prblm wd d previous soln...discuss all d properties of triangles on d main page, nt in d comment list.

@monika mam where i can acess the solution.

according to me we need to check for the triangle to be obtuse considering two cases :- 1. longest side is 15cm 2. unknown side is longest.

from two cases number of solution comes out to be 10.
